The 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show Goes Electric - Architectural Digest

There’s a lot to unpack from the recent 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show (which closed to the public in late November). Yet the biggest news from the major event, as at many other recent auto shows, was electric vehicles (EVs). This makes sense: California is not just one of the largest car markets in the country, accounting for around one tenth of all vehicle sales annually, it is by far America’s largest consumer of plug-in cars, representing nearly half of all EVs sold here, cumulatively. Some of this is due to the state’s—and its residents’—historical position as trendsetters. Some of it is because of significant state and local tax breaks that incentivize consumers to get into vehicles that don’t directly emit any CO2. And some of it is the result of legislation passed by the state that requires a certain (and growing) proportion of the vehicles sold to be battery powered.

Whatever the reason, we think it’s a good thing. Not only is less pollution and fewer emissions good for the earth and its inhabitants, electric cars are fun to drive, and, increasingly, interesting to look at from a design perspective. Here’s a list (in alphabetical order) of some of the coolest new battery-powered vehicles launched in L.A. around the show.
