A Santa Barbara man is recovering from a horrific accident that spurred a dramatic scene Thursday night.
A local resident is also being hailed a hero, credited for possibly saving a life.
First responders are investigating a structure and vehicle fire that left a man singed.
Our team spoke with firefighters and the resident behind the rescue.
Just before 8:00 p.m., crews received multiple calls for a medical emergency off Olive and Haley Streets.
That was quickly upgraded to a vehicle fire once units arrived. There they found a Jeep fully engulfed in flames, which had spread to an awning at Mastercraft Motors auto body shop and badly burned an adult male.
Loud noises, screaming, a fiery explosion and a man on fire - that's what Carlos Corona saw and heard before springing into action.
Corona was in the front portion of his house. He says the victim was doing mechanic work across the street when Corona heard a loud noise and came outside to see what was going on.
“He saw the guy was screaming, yelling for help, crying. His whole body was on fire. He helped him get his shirt off and started hosing him down with water and then another explosion came out once he was already out of there," said Corona, translated by his nephew.
According to a Fire Inspector Investigator with the City of Santa Barbara Fire Department, the victim suffered second-degree burns to his arms, hands, upper torso and face.
Jim Austin says the man was flown south to a burn center for treatment with critical injuries.
The vehicle is said to be a complete loss. Our crews saw what was left of the framework being towed away just before 11:00 p.m.
The victim is said to be the owner of the Jeep that caught on fire and he also works at the Mastercraft Motors auto body shop.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental that originated in the rear of the vehicle.

According to fire officials, the victim, who was burned after catching on fire at a Santa Barbara auto shop, suffered from moderate burns in the chest area.
A car caught on fire and caused a portion of the roof of Mastercraft Motors to also catch on fire Thursday night.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Firefighters are at the scene where a man caught on fire at an auto body shop in Santa Barbara Thursday night.
The auto body shop is located off of Olive Street and Haley Street where officials say a car caught on fire and lit the roof of the shop up.
According to witnesses, a man came running out who was caught on fire.
A neighbor quickly ran over and helped to put him out.
About two blocks have been blocked off.
