Morgan Auto plans BMW dealership for Wesley Chapel - Tampa Bay Times

WESLEY CHAPEL — Morgan Auto Group plans a new BMW dealership abutting its existing MINI of Wesley Chapel location east of the Interstate 75 and State Road 56 interchange.

The proposal adds the BMW flag to the growing luxury car market in Wesley Chapel that has seen Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Lexus open dealerships in the area since 2015.

Preliminary plans filed with Pasco County this week show a seven-story, nearly 130,000-square-foot dealership on approximately 4 acres owned by Morgan Auto Group. The land is west of the MINI of Wesley Chapel dealership. The conceptual drawings by Spring Engineering show the multi-level parking deck would include space for a 340-vehicle sales inventory and 208 spots for customers and employees.

"We’ve been waiting for BMW to land for a long time,'' said Hope Allen, president and CEO of the North Tampa Bay Chamber. "It’s always exciting when a luxury car brand enters our market.''

BMW initially planned to plant its Wesley Chapel flag with a different operator and at a different location — further east on SR 56 within the Wiregrass Ranch development. In a 2018 interview, Brett Morgan, CEO of Morgan Auto Group, acknowledged he was disappointed his company was not selected to operate the BMW dealership.

But, those plans apparently have changed. J.D. Porter, whose family owns the Wiregrass Ranch land originally targeted for the BMW dealership, declined comment Friday.

Morgan Auto Group owns 34 dealerships including 10 in the Tampa Bay area. BMW of Wesley Chapel would be Morgan’s fifth location in Pasco County.

Pasco County "is a wonderful place to own/operate a business,'' Brett Morgan said last year. "There are pockets of tremendous growth in Pasco, and it has been fun to watch and will be great to be a part of it moving forward.''

The BMW dealership will be the fourth auto car sales location just east of the I-75/SR 56 interchange joining Mercedes Benz, MINI of Wesley Chapel and the planned Volkswagen of Wesley Chapel.
